Future Six-Day Race?

Across the Years will sponsor no six-day race in 2006!

Since 2002 there has been periodic discussion among persons closely connected with Across the Years about the possibility of putting on a six-day race. Such a project is an enormous undertaking. Across the Years included a six-day in its 1999—2000 edition to celebrate the incoming of the new millennium. Although it was a great success, the work involved almost killed some of the volunteers.

We recognize that to put on a quality six-day race would be a monumental achievement, a milestone in the history of Arizona running, and that the nature of six-day races is such that it would likely draw elite participants from all over the world.

So far we have been unable to martial the resources necessary to mount a six-day race. Whether we will do so in some future year remains to be seen. Suffice it to say that the possibility has not been dismissed.

We also recognize that a six-day would appeal to a different crowd than many who have run in our races year after year, and that some long-time participants within what we have come to regard as the "ATY Family" would be unable to participate or attend. This realization has been no small factor in moving us to hold off.
